I Don’t Have The <3

emo

Hey Creadivs,

I don’t know if you guys have really been subjected to my brand of sarcastic humor too much on this site as I have tried to keep it pretty tame around here. I don’ t like things to get out of hand too much.

However I do generally hate all things that are trendy, I even hated blogging for a long time because it was too trendy for me. I eventually got over that hatred, but one that I haven’t and won’t ever get over is the overuse of emoticons. I like the occasional smile, wink, and kiss as much as the next nerd to some times enough is enough.

So today’s post brings me much pleasure I bring to you today the banning of the stupid emoticon <3.

Every year the Lake Superior State University in the UP of Michigan publishes a list of words that are mis-used, over-used, and generally useless to be banned for the following year and for the first time in its history an emoticon was put on the list. Yep stupid old <3.

If you would like to see the other words check out the full story on yahoo.

The John Chow Effect

Hello Creadivs,

As I continue to build new websites, themes, and plug-ins my focus is driven further and further away from blogging.  Why? The “John Chow effect” as we will call is starting to wear off.

What is the “John Chow Effect”

When many of us started blogging in the MMO/Blogging niche it was for 1 reason and 1 reason only, to make money.  But we had it all ass backwards and that my friends is the “John Chow Effect”.

We all drank the punch, got gopped up on goop, or “insert slang term here” on John’s monthly income reports and fell into believing that we too could make money online by telling people how much we made online and how we did it.

But John’s blog is successful because he makes money, not because he tells people how to make money.  His ability to produce large profits and to continually raise the bar on each report is what makes people read his blog not the information that he provides his readers, because both you and I know it is mainly crap.

Blogging in the MMO niche is easy, you can write about what you did and how you did it, what you should and shouldn’t do, and you will find that you will get a decent following.  The problem is you don’t get the buyers or clickers.  Your audience is your peers and just like you they are selling the same shit and hoping for the same clicks. In turn Making Money in the MMO niche is very hard.

So What?

So here is where I am at with this blog.

I don’t want to let Creadiv die because I have been writing for this blog for over a year and it has a pretty good fan base.  I don’t want to sell it because it was the first site I ever made.  I don’t want to write about MMO/Blogging tips anymore because frankly they are boring and don’t make any money.

I think that there are 2 options for creadiv.

1.  Turn in into Creadiv Design again, my design and development portfolio.

2.  Turn it into a Personal Journal.

3. Do Nothing - quit my bitching and continue to ocassionally write about MMO because you like it.

Tell me what to do.

Powered By Lithium Hosting

Lithium HostingHello Creadivs,

A month or two ago I started working with the Elegant Wordpress Theme affiliate system because I was trying to find ways to monetized my site without spamming it with ads. Today I bring to you my newest affiliate membership which is with Lithium Hosting.

This isn’t your everyday affiliate program though. I didn’t just join the Lithium program because I wanted to make some extra cash I joined it because I use Lithium hosting for all of my hosting needs, and the owner of the company is a man I consider a good friend.

I have found that often times the problem with affiliate programs is that they are impersonal and difficult to succeed in if you don’t know the company or the product so I thought with the introduction of the first Lithium ads on my site I would allow TJ to introduce himself and his company to you. So Without Further Ado TJ Siedsma:

My name is T.J. Siedsma and I own and operate Lithium Hosting. Lithium Hosting is based out of Des Moines, Iowa and is part of Integrity Computers. I started Integrity Computers in October of 2000 as a Residential / Small Business Computer and Network Support business. My computer support business was growing steadily so I decided to delve into the realm of online web hosting. I offered my new web hosting services to a few select clients and things were going really well. I eventually added more customers and acquired another server and now run Lithium Hosting off 2 servers with WHM / cPanel. I started my first advertising campaign on the Something Awful Forums. That has been pretty successful but has made me realize that advertising is a very difficult game to play. I believe most people will ask friends or family for recommendations or referrals before taking the advice of a billboard or banner ad. As such, I am very pleased that Adam has decided to feature me and my business on his website. I think it’s a great opportunity for me to tell my story and hopefully get a couple of new customers out of it.
