Quicktricks: Microsoft Windows Shortcut Keys

Windows came specially packaged with a plethora of ways to do things quickly.  With only your keyboard you can easily do almost any task that you are looking to accomplish.  In this edition of quicktricks, I explain how to close a program without leaving the keyboard.

This tip like our previous one is very useful when trying to hide your game playing or lack of working from your boss, but this time you will use it to get rid of the evidence rather than just switching to another window.

For the time being I really don’t want you closing my blog while you are learning what I am teaching you so, go open any other program you would like.  I will stick with my solitaire.

Ok, now you have you game up on your screen.  Simply hold down the Alt key and now tap F4 and release both keys.

Yep that was it.  Bless Microsoft and making it so easy on us to avoid getting caught at work.

In our next edition of quicktrick look for something a little more work useful.  Although our first to shortcut keys were used keep you from working we are going to start focusing on the shortcuts that are going to make your work day a little easier.

Do you know any shortcuts that you would like the world to hear? email them to me from my contact form.  Do you know another way to do this same task?  Leave a comment and inform the world.  Did you like this post?  Add it to one of the social networking sites.  Looking for more?  Please Subscribe.

Windows Qucktricks, Keyboard Shortcuts

In programming and being sneaky you have to be fast and functional.  So whatever you can do to keep your hands on the keyboard instead of on the mouse you are in better position to do both.

With quick trick i am going to show you some cool shortcut keys that will make your life easy.

The first trick you will learn is going to help you get back to your work screen when you are browsing the internet and your boss walks up.  Don’t act like you don’t do it.  And trust me he notices we you quickly jump from keyboard to mouse with a look of panic in your face.  So let us begin.

Start by holdling down the Alt key, then press Tab.  In Windows a menu will appear in the middle of your screen showing icons of all the programs that you currently have open.  You can move between programs by hitting tab until you come to the program you would like to switch to.  Once you are on the icon you want let go of the Alt key.

That is it. Simple, and effective.  You will be back working before you boss notices anything, and your hands will have never left the keyboard.

Now i don’t really recommend screwing around at work because you could lose your job. So you could also use this for more practical things like actually multitasking at work and easily switching between programs.

Either way good luck and enjoy your new trick.
