Danny Cooper’s - Blog Comment Blueprint

When it comes to writing product reviews I generally don’t care much for them for two reasons.

  • 1. They Are Boring
  • 2. They Take A Lot Of Work

With that said though, I do like to support my friends and promote good products. Which is why I am excited to tell you that the Blog Comment Blueprint is on sale now. This is less of a review and more of a post explaining what the book is about and my reasons as to why you should buy it.

Link Building For Beginners

Giving a glowing review of a direct competitors free e-book is probably not the best way to win a competition against him. But Danny Cooper’s Link Building For Beginners e-book is a very good read and I think you should all check it out.

To start I want to let you all know that this is a free review, Danny didn’t even ask for it. I just liked what he wrote and though you might too. Second this is a review of the content of the book. I am not an English professor and even though I noticed a few grammatical/spelling errors I didn’t let that distract me from the value of his content and you shouldn’t either.

The book is 26 pages long and split up into 11 easy to understand chapters therefore reviewing it is a piece of cake. I will outline his chapters and let you know what I thought of each.

Link Building For Beginners

Chapter 1 - Why Do We Build Links?

The first chapter starts at the beginning with Danny explaining the purpose of link building, what PR is, and what S.E.R.P.s are. Nothing really new, but a logical place to start. Take a moment and flip through it, you can’t get into details without knowing the basics.

Chapter 2 - Link Characteristics & Chapter 3 - How To Find Out If A Link Is Do Follow.

The second and third chapters leads you into the technical jargon that many bloggers have no concept of the rel tag on a link. Unless you are a developer you may have never ventured into the view source area. A simple difference can mean a lot for a pages & links value. Plus Danny introduces us to a cool add on for Firefox for checking if a site is Do Follow. And I know how much you all love plug-ins.

Chapter 4 - The Value Of Links

What determines a links strength? Chapter 4 tells you what search engines take into account when looking at a link on a page. Once again Danny is dead on about how PR, Place, Relevance, and Density will effect the value of a link.

Chapter 5 - Internal Linking

Step outside of the box, actually step inside of the box. A look into how linking to your own pages can improve the PR balance for your site. A concept that is often overlooked. Read this page carefully and you will understand the benefits of linking to your own pages and the benefits of a sitemap.

Chapter 6 - Negative Factors While Building Links

Chapter 6 takes a look at what could be a negative factor in link building. Don’t skip this chapter as I found it to be the most impressive. Take a look at your link building strategies and make sure you are following these rules. It will save you some time and definitely keep you from making silly mistakes.

Chapter 7 - Inbound Links The Creme Of The Crop

This is basically a checklist of things for you to do during your link building campaign. Print this out and tape it up on your wall so that you can glance at it from time to time.

Chapter 8 - External Linking

Does external linking to relevant pages help your PR? A chapter with no definitive answer. You can probably skip this one as it pretty much just debates theory.

Chapter 9 - Where Shall We Start? Directories I Suppose!

Chapter 9 discusses the types of link directories, where you can find them, and how you submit your site to them. I just grazed this chapter as I just don’t trust many directories.

Chapter 10 - Building Links By Writing For Other Sites

A look into writing for article directories and the best ways to get it done quickly. Sketchy in my eyes, But it will work.

Chapter 11 - How to Comment Like A Pro

If you know Danny you know this is the best chapter. But it almost feels rushed. After he finishes his October case study I expect him to make a whole new e-book simply called How To Comment Like A Pro as I can only believe he will then have enough room to tell you how to do it right.

Summary

Danny’s E-book is well written and informative. He shares his knowledge with you for free. The one thing I left out of the book is review is this quote because i wanted to mention it last as It should be the last thing that sticks in your mind.

I have something to reveal, the extremely over used cliche “content is king” is no longer true. Content has now simply become one of the kings weapons, to be a successful king you need to utilize all your weapons

Danny uses that to open his book. He immediately had me hooked because it is so true. Your blog is the King, now read his book and find out how to utilize your weapon.

Are You Dormwise?

This post is a free review of dormwise.com.  Meaghan earned this review for herself by generously donating to the March For Babies walkathon through the contest I am holding here

College is a fun time, whether you go away or stay home there are opportunities for you to accomplish many goals and have a great time doing it.  In my experience, which was about a year longer than it should have been, I lived in a dorm, at home, and in apartments so I guess you could say that I gained alot of life experience along the way by adjusting to many new situations.

One thing I didn’t have in my college experience was Dormwise.  Dormwise is a one stop shop (not really a shop but a resource) for all things dorm and college related. Dormwise offers college students everywhere to make the most of their time at school by preparing them for what they might encounter, what they can do, how they can study, where to go, and what to eat.

The Content

Home Page:

Dormwise is still in the early stages of development and as the site makes progress in design and development they frequently update the home page with content describing what they are doing.  This is a benefit because it keeps their readers informed, it lets them know what is going on and invites members of the community to voice their opinion about what is happening.  However if my ( a reader’s ) goal is to get a good story about what to do for finals week and instead I get an article about a newsletter update I might be a little dissapointed.

My Suggestions -  make your homepage’s primary focus on the content your readers are coming to your site for and keep news and developments off to the side.

Dorm Transform Page:

This page was my favorite. It contained some great articles on how to make your dorm room your own by utilizing cheap and unique design.  Wow! Who would have thought I would like a section about design?  Besides customizing your room to fit who you are the dorm tranform page had a very good article about keeping up on your laundry and tips for doing so.

My Suggestions -  All you need is some more content.  This section I feel will really take care of itself.  Students are always looking for ways to improve their dorm rooms.  I might even add a diy (do it yourself) section in here with tutorials on how to build small furnishings and accessories.

Food & Drink Page:

Face it dorm room food sucks.  More often than not you are eating pizza or a cup of noodles.  The page at dormwise about food has some great easy to make recipes if you have the right materials available to you.  Keep an eye on this section because you are going to get tired of jimmy john’s sandwiches eventually, and if you don’t you will surely run out of cash.

My Suggestions - We need more entres.  So far the section is covered in sweets and side dishes.  Be creative in suggesting ways to create meals and not just individual dishes.

The Design

The design of dormwise isn’t terrible, but it isn’t warm and welcoming either.  The site’s content is well placed, easy to read, and easy to navigate, but after that I was kinda bored.  The images used are generic and I think could better suit the target market by being more fun and fashionable.  The logo in my opinion is a no go.  College students have ADD and unless you really draw there attention in you are not going to keep them coming back.

Your Turn

Goto www.dormwise.com and see for yourself what is available to you.  I think it is a pretty good site with the capabilites to be a great site.  With a few design modifications and the continuous addition of great content dormwise can provide college students with a great resource.  So if you are in college or have attended college go check out the site and tell me what you think it needs.

If you are awesome subscribe to my rss feed.  If you like emails subscribe via email.  Remember only you can prevent forest fires help me achieve my goal of 100 subscribers by June.
