Answer Session 1

Let me start by saying thank you to all that participated in my version of a Q&A that started 2 days ago with Question Session 1. I really did get some great questions, but I could only choose one that I liked the most. So with that being said I have to choose ZK from WebTrafficROI because his questions forced me to write a whole new post, which then inspired another post. So congrats to ZK as you are the winner of 30 days of free advertising on Creadiv.

  • With that out of the way lets get to the answers.
  • Question 1 came from Danny Cooper of Linkers Blog, Danny Asked:

My question for you…What do you think of commentators using anchor text as their name?

Danny I truthfully believe that it is kind of lame. Yes it can be great for generating keyword targeted back links to your site, but commenting should be more of a personal method of generating traffic. By commenting I try to add value to a discussion and hope that my words will bring good visitors to my site. I am not just trying to get new back links.

  • Question 2 came from M. Pence of 2phatgeeks and Mel asked:

Knowing what you do about blogging right now, at this moment - is there anything you know now that you wish you did when you started blogging in the first place?

And in your opinion what is the #1 mistake most beginner bloggers make that can hurt their traffic?

I wish I would have know how necessary it is to be consistent. I spent nearly 9 months writing inconsistently and now 2 month writing regularly. In these 2 months I have gained more readers than I did in the 9 month period.

The #1 mistake newbies make is they start monetizing their sites to early. Focus on building your readership first and making money later. I just decrapped my site by removing adsense and kontera because in the long run I think it will make me more money.

  • Question 3 came from Kouji of The Haiku Poem Blog and Kouji asked:

Have you ever written a haiku?

No, I haven’t actually ever written a haiku. In 9th grade however I did win a poetry contest for writing a short poem called “A Summer’s Game” it was about baseball. But I think I will give it a shot now. My creadiv haiku:

    one new subcriber
    one step ahead
    stilling losing to danny

  • Question 4 came from Freddie of Freddie Taylor and Freddie asked:

You mentioned commenting had gone through the roof over the last week, what do you attribute the rapid increase in participation to?

Well as everyone has pretty much already guessed the answer is from commenting on other sites. But there was also a huge increase in traffic thanks to one of my articles getting stumbled.

  • Question 5 came from ZK at WebTrafficROI and ZK asked;

How many hours a day do you spend blogging?
Your top 5 ways to increase traffic to your blog?

I spend on average 4 to 5 hours a day blogging. That includes writing, reading, commenting, networking and updating my site.

As for my top 5 list. It would be too long to answer here so thanks for the new post idea. It will be coming soon.

  • Question 6 came from Simon of Otooo, Simon asked:

How big should your blog be before you can call youself a big blogger?

Honestly Simon I don’t think you are ever allowed to call yourself a big blogger. That is just a label other people get to put on you when you achieve success. If go around calling yourself a big blogger most people are going to think you have a big head. (not like Jay’s big head a metaphorical big head)

Once again thanks to all that participated. I really had fun doing this and hope you enjoyed it as well. If you have forgotten I am competing with a couple of bloggers in an RSS competition and am getting my ass kicked so any help would be appreciated.

LogoBlog.org is Garbage

Yeah, I said it, but you don’t have to take my word for it, check the site out and make your own decision if you want, but I think you will agree with what I have to say.

I am writing this today because I am sick and tired of having comments removed from sites simply because you either post a link to your own site in the comment or the author of the site is ridiculous and deletes it because they don’t agree with your opinion.

A few days ago logoblog came out with a post detailing the wonders of the new xerox logo and as you may or may not know I think the new logo is garbage. (My Reasoning Here)  Anywho I went to the site read the article as I do with most of the articles on logoblog because it is something I am interested in, and then I decided to leave my opinion in the form of a comment.  You know that little area underneath the posts where authors ask for your opinions.  Well apparently mine wasn’t in agreeance with what the thought police over at logoblog had in mind so they removed it.

This was my comment on the post.  Not verbatim of course because I can’t remember it completely but you will get the point.

Adam (Me) says…

I think the new Xerox logo is garbage, it is bubbly and web 2.0.  I never thought Xerox needed something flashy for you to know who they were.  I wrote a post about this on my blog a while back when the logo first debuted if you want to see the other reasons why I didn’t like it please check out (inserted link to site).

So if you are the author of logoblog and are for some reason find yourself reading this post and still have a copy of my comment please send it to me so I can show my readers the exact qoute you thought couldn’t be on your site. It wasn’t spammy and didn’t have any inappropriate language in it.

I was a moderate fan of logoblog but now have decided that it isn’t worth mine or your time so here are some more reasons it sucks.

  • Horrible Theme - a slightly modified version of the default wordpress theme.  Way to go there guys.  I am supposed to take your word on the creativity and the importance of a design and you can’t even create and design one for yourself.
  • Free Logo Maker - If you are going to offer a free service such as logo design try to take some time and have it do something besides add a dropshadow to a font.  Or at least don’t say you are an authority on logo design and then try to pass this shit off as a logo.
  • A Free Ebook - Wow this sounds great… I would love a good ebook about logo design. Wait they are not giving away a free ebook they are asking you to give them free information so they can compile it and then give it back to you all while making advertising money.
  • Simply put they are liars -  Their about us page describes how they provide up to the minute logo news and unbiased opinions.  Unless you can back that up don’t print it.  You update the site once a week, which is almost never up to the minute information, and you remove comments you don’t like which hardly ever leaves room for unbiased debate and discussion.

I am sorry for my rant, but I am so tired of bloggers deleting comments if it is not warranted.  If you didn’t like my link remove the link, if you disagree tell me why don’t be a wenis and delete what could lead to a good discussion.  If you like logoblog or don’t let me know why.  If you are logoblog defend yourself.
